After
school for design and photography (1986) I worked in theaters. I was
a member of Cosmokinetic
Cabinet Noordung theater, part of the Neue
Slowenische Kunst (NSK) art movement that began operating in 1984
as a large collective, a union of various groups brought together
by their shared way of thinking and similar style of avant-garde expression
through different media: popular music, visual arts, graphic design,
theater and philosophy. From
1983 my activities have included theatre costume, set, puppet, toys
and visual promotion design, sound creating, acting, directing, choreography
and performing.
Though I love my theater career and especially team work the demands
of taking jobs in this discipline makes it hard to find the time and
energy for my very own projects. My
work includes exhibitions as well as documentary videos and dance
performances. Since 1995 I have been working on computer art: music,
graphics, animation, logo-types, and have been creating web-sites
and participating in Computer Demo parties, signing my work with the
pseudonym Sofia.
- 2000 I started to work with animals -pets and
animals in zoos, habitats and farms. This career change has drastically
improved my life. I create constructions
and toys to enrich their life. My ideas and approaches were recognized by
the local zoo in

My
main work interest is in animal enrichment, with focus on careful
and construction-aware design. Many years of experience in theatre
set design help me to find quick, safe and solid solutions to make
animal care as best as possible. The focus of my work is on the
qualities of safe construction, ease of use, sanitary standards,
money and time saving, which will engage the spirit and emotions
of the animal, evoking a sense of mystery, excitement, or joy.
My
objective would be to
bring together many design disciplines and
to apply design thinking to new areas, especially
under
the Animal Enrichment framework to address the issue of basic animal
care.
I am integrating knowledge from biology and
ethology into design for animals.
My
formal training was primarily in Industrial design, drawing and
constructing objects for people. After many years of experimenting
with various media in theaters I discovered that designing items
for animals and the challenge of investigating animal behavior best
expressed my personal vision of living together on this planet.
My
work makes people and animals stop, look, smell and touch.
Lecturing opportunities further motivated me towards more research.
I
have contributed to understanding of the poorly known animal enrichment
management goals and basic background in
my country.
